At 7 pm, on Friday, September 20, 2019, The Center for Wooden Boats on Lake Union in Seattle, WA, will host author/mariner Emiliano Marino at the Third Friday Speaker Series.
Accompanied by partner Salty Sue of The Artful Sailor Whole Earth Nautical Supply in Port Townsend, Marino is eager to share tales, photos and songs of his summer boating adventures in TASWENS, the company's 16' wooden dory. For the second year in a row, Marino rowed the human-powered 70/48 race round trip from Port Townsend to Tacoma and then raced back.
A mere two weeks after the race, The Artful Sailor launched Emiliano and TASWENS out on a circumnavigation of The Great Kitsap Peninsula: from Port Townsend, down Hood Canal, a 4-mile human-powered portage over to South Sound and back around up to Port Townsend. In South Sound, he met up with the Salish 100 camp cruise fleet. The journey of over 200 miles took 12 days.
Scuttlebutt has it that Marino might row TASWENS from PT to Seattle and that the well-found boat will be on display in the lecture hall during the presentation. Stories of preparedness, endurance and adventure as well as answers to long held boating questions await inquisitive attendees. All are welcome, everyone is free.
